Sasolburg, South Africa – Sasol will this week host its 16th flagship career exhibition, Sasol Techno X, from 16 – 19 August 2016 at the Boiketlong Sport Centre in Sasolburg.
Over the years Sasol Techno X has become the largest Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) career guidance exhibition in the country that annually attracts more than 20 000 visitors from seven provinces.
Traditionally hosted in Sasolburg, and now also bi-annually in Secunda, Sasol TechnoX focuses on mathematics, science and technology and is a platform for Grade 7 – 12 learners to engage with real world application of these subjects in a way that creates interest and captivates the imagination.
There are two new features at this year’s Sasol Techno X. Visitors will be allowed to enter the virtual reality of our Sasol plants and even walk around a Sasol plant through 3D technology. Don’t miss this opportunity at the Sasol exhibition hall.
Another highlight not to be missed is the Skills Centre where learners will be exposed to a number of industrial artisan trades and existing training opportunities.
Sasol realises that artisan skills are critical in most industries and have a significant role to play in growing national and local economies. In the case of Sasol, the company requires around 16 artisans for every one engineer that it employs. Increasing youth enrolment into technical and vocational skills training could therefore well be the solution to improving youth employability. Sasol Techno X 2016 seeks to practically demonstrate to the thousands of learners visiting TechnoX that it is indeed “cool” to be an artisan in the 21st century.
“As a large corporation, we serve a higher purpose than just running our businesses profitably. At Sasol we believe in building great South Africans through our various support programmes. We therefore seek to play a constructive role as a transformative employer of choice and, more broadly, as an active corporate citizen,” said Vusi Cwane, Vice President Public Affairs, at Sasol’s Sasolburg Operations.
“Let us pave the way to a brighter future for our youth of today as well as, for future generations, by exposing them to a world of opportunities that may be discovered through mathematics, science and technology. Sasol Techno X 2016 promises to ignite the curiosity within learners to ask the right questions for today’s minds that will create the ideas that will enable tomorrow’s developments; ultimately shaping our future. It is our aim to open the eyes and minds of learners to a world of possibilities,” said Cwane.
