Zwartkops Raceway was a hive of activity this weekend as motoring enthusiasts attended the 10th Sasol Race Day, round seven of the Bridgestone Production Car hampionship.
The Sasol Racing Circuit Team executed the task at hand with optimal performance as both drivers, Hennie Groenewald and Richard Pinard had one of their best race meetings this season.
Groenewald claimed two pole positions, three fastest race laps and took two lights-to-flag victories to secure second place in the championship standings
with two rounds remaining.
For Groenewald, it was critical to get in front and stay there to run in cool air. “It wasn’t as easy as it looked. The temperature got within four degrees of
the critical zone, so I turned down the boost and short-shifted,” Groenewald said.
Pinard had his best showing this year, finishing all three races that added 13 points to his tally. He started fifth on the grid and crossed the finish line
in sixth position.
“It was my best weekend of the year. I saw the chequered flag three times,” Pinard exclaimed. “It was a great day racing with a good crowd. I have never
signed so many posters before. It was a privilege to be part of the Sasol Racing Team this weekend.”
Sasol Racing Circuit Team pilots two Subaru WRX STI’s. Circuit vehicles have highly sophisticated engines equipped with state-of-the-art technology that
endure extreme conditions, yet maintain high performance – as a result, they serve as catalysts in developing Sasol Turbo Fuels and Lubricants.
Alan Cameron, Managing Director, Sasol Oil was thrilled with the team’s performance. “Both drivers did us proud and pushed their performance to the maximum.”
“Motorsport is an important part of Sasol’s history. We’ve played a pivotal role in the development of new racing engine technology for more than six
decades and this has proved to be the testing ground for Sasol to produce state-of the-art products for its customers. The result has been high performance fuels and lubricants that are being developed and tested by Sasol
for South African conditions,” concluded Cameron.
The penultimate round of the Championship takes place in Cape Town on 22nd September.
