Sasol’s Racing Rally Team, backed by a pair of M-Sport-built Fiesta S2000’s snatched the final podium place last weekend as Mark Cronje and Robin Houghton claimed third place during the Toyota Cape Dealer Rally.
On day one, Cronje and Houghton were leading the pack after winning five of the stages. On reaching stage six, they made a vital wrong route note call that
cost the team two minutes, dropping them to sixth position by the end of the day. Cronje said, “I knew we could fight back and we gave it our all. We are running such a fast pace that it is difficult to judge the right line from a two-dimensional DVD we use to make our route notes.”
Team mates Jon Williams and Cobus Vrey had a good race on their home turf, finishing in 4th place. They now move up to third place in the championship standings with two rounds to go. “I’m really happy to be third position on the championship log but there is a lot to sort out before the last two events,” Williams said.
Sasol Oil’s Managing Director, Alan Cameron was not surprised with the team’s fighting spirit, “We’re proud to enable a high performance rally team. Not only
do they exemplify peak racing performance, they provide the ideal platform for us to continuously improve our products through rigorous testing and analysis,”
he added.
The next rally for the Sasol Racing Rally Team is on 6 to 7 October 2012 in Polokwane.
