sasol birds

We live on a continent blessed not only with great natural beauty but also an unsurpassed diversity of animals and plants. Moreover, in among the region's fauna is a grouping that captures the human imagination in a special way, for they embody the essence of Africa.

These are the birds. The enchantment, the very spirit of the continent's wild places resides in the haunting call of the fish eagle, in the majesty of vultures painting lazy circles in the sky, in the acrobatic virtuosity of the bateleur, in the secretive ways of the nocturnal owl.

As a lover of birds, Sasol has committed itself to sponsoring a variety of birding projects. These include a number of publications including the popular Sasol birds of southern Africa, facilities for birding such as bird hides, birding weekends in the Kruger national park and at Marakele.

Sasol also supports the activities of the Endangered Wildlife Trust's vulture study group, the ground hornbill project and numerous other initiatives all aimed at creating enthusiasm and preservation of our precious bird resource in South Africa.
