Sasol Infrachem is based at the Sasolburg chemical complex and reforms natural gas into synthesis gas for use as petrochemical feedstock. It also produces and markets ammonia and provides a services platform to the various
business units at the Sasolburg sites, including utilities, infrastructure and site support. Sasol Infrachem is also responsible for site governance at
The polymers business operates a combined ethylene cracking and separation plant. Small quantities of propane are co-cracked.
Sasol Solvents utilises six plants, methanol, methyl iso-butyl ketone (MIBK), water and NAC recovery, a blending operation, and mining chemicals. A cobalt
catalyst plant is operated by Sasol Synfuels International.
Pilot plants, laboratories, maintenance workshops, a library and a R&D centre are run on site by Sasol Technology.
Sasol Wax produces synthetic wax based on Sasolís proprietary technology. Coal is mined by Sasol Mining at the nearby Sigma: Mooikraal operation. Sasol
ChemCity is also represented.
Sasolburg is home to various nitro plants. An ammonia plant derives Syngas from reformed natural gas and a nitric acid plant is linked to a downstream facility which produces low density ammonium nitrate for manufacturing
Joint ventures include Merisol (Sasol and Merichem) and Natref (Sasol Oil and Total South Africa).
A number of shared services are rendered by Sasol Group Services.
The Sasolburg site is also responsible for Sasolís provincial reputation management in the Free State.
