"An artist's signature is the culmination of months of hard work, a moment of accomplishment and joy. It materialises after finding the correct composition, colour, design and materials, verifying success in finally expressing what initially inspired them. It is as unique to an artist as their DNA or fingerprint and proof of their authenticity" says Peter Binsbergen, chairperson of the 2013 Sasol New Signatures art competition.
The Sasol New Signatures competition, now in its 24th year, recognises the joy which an emerging artist's signature brings. Entering the competition provides a platform not only for extensive recognition, but also for the financial means to launch a career in the art world.
Innovative emerging artists are invited to enter the 2013 Sasol New Signatures art competition. The annual competition is aimed at discovering our country's freshest art talent and is open to all South African artists who are 18 years and older who have not held a solo exhibition, except for an exhibition for academic purposes. (A solo exhibition entails a body of work of at least 20 works exhibited in a commercial gallery)
Final judging takes place on Monday 12 August 2013. Regional judges will select approximately 100 works which will be exhibited at the final judging on Monday 12 August 2013 and then as part of the Sasol New Signatures exhibition at the Pretoria Art Museum from 28 August until 13 October 2013.
