Johannesburg, South Africa – The Sasol Foundation is hosting a webinar this afternoon to honour of the country’s educators and to appreciate them for their dedication and support, and for ensuring that learning continues safely during the COVID-19 pandemic. This is in commemoration of World Teachers’ Day, which is a partnership between UNICEF, the International Labour Organization and Education International, and took place earlier this month.
“Even during the national Lockdown, teachers did not rest,” said Vusi Cwane, Head of the Sasol Foundation.
“They dedicated themselves to delivering many initiatives including the Foundation-supported science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) digital school, which provided online lessons to learners across the country, keeping them on track with their lessons.”
With learners now back at school, Cwane said teachers have the added responsibility to ensure social distancing and other preventative measures to help curb the spread of the covid-19 outbreak.
“They do this over and above their normal day-to-day responsibilities.”
Established in 2008 to focus on addressing systemic challenges in STEM education in South Africa, the Sasol Foundation has long and successful partnership with the country’s educators. It is because of this strong partnership that it has been able to effect meaningful change in the education system through resources such as free online textbooks, workbooks, mobile laboratories and technical subject workshops, said Cwane.
“It is our belief that to impact education you must invest in, and partner with teachers. This is because they remain in the education system much longer with each teacher impacting a minimum of 200 learners a year. Today, many of us have attained countless achievements in different aspects of our lives due to the solid education foundation laid by our teachers.”
Today’s webinar will take place from 14:00 and teachers from across the country are invited to participate.

The programme includes an appreciation address by the Foundation, which early this year received a UNESCO Award for its resource-based educator development programmes. These include STEM education research, school leadership development and training for STEM Subject Advisors.
The public is urged to join in on the celebration, by posting messages of appreciation on Sasol’s social media platforms using #TeacherAppreciationZA and #SasolFoundation.

These statements may also relate to our future prospects, developments and business strategies. Examples of such forward-looking statements include, but are not limited to, statements regarding exchange rate fluctuations, volume growth, increases in market share, total shareholder return, executing our growth projects (including LCCP), oil and gas reserves and cost reductions, including in connection with our BPEP, RP and our business performance outlook. By their very nature, forward-looking statements involve inherent risks and uncertainties, both general and specific, and there are risks that the predictions, forecasts, projections and other forward-looking statements will not be achieved. If one or more of these risks materialise, or should underlying assumptions prove incorrect, our actual results may differ materially from those anticipated. You should understand that a number of important factors could cause actual results to differ materially from the plans, objectives, expectations, estimates and intentions expressed in such forward-looking statements. These factors are discussed more fully in our most recent annual report on Form 20-F filed on 28 August 2018 and in other filings with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission. The list of factors discussed therein is not exhaustive; when relying on forward-looking statements to make investment decisions, you should carefully consider both these factors and other uncertainties and events. Forward-looking statements apply only as of the date on which they are made, and we do not undertake any obligation to update or revise any of them, whether as a result of new information, future events or otherwise.
