Sasol and the Limpopo Government today launched their annual road-side safety and assistance campaign. This is geared to assist thousands of motorists travelling along the R71 highway this Easter.

This is the 12th year that Sasol is offering road-side assistance to people who set off on the religious pilgrimage to Moria in Limpopo during the Easter period.

“We are concerned about the safety of our motorists and we encourage them to check that their vehicles are roadworthy before embarking on long journeys. We urge all drivers to obey road rules, be alert and respect the rights of other commuters and pedestrians,” says Maurice Radebe, managing director of Sasol Oil Fuel Marketing.

A recent roads assessment project conducted on the R71 road noted a marked increase in pedestrian deaths, mainly as a result of poor visibility in the evenings. As a result, street lights have been erected at specific points along the road.

“We are pleased to launch the Easter road patrol and will mark the occasion with a special candle lighting ceremony to commemorate all victims of road accidents. We are also grateful to the South African Council of Churches and other religious organisations for their support in encouraging people to think and act safely on our roads,” says Limpopo MEC of Roads and Transport, Stan Motimele.

Motimele also urges road users to be on the lookout for Sasol mechanics that will assist stranded motorists on the R101, R71, N1, R33 and in Mokopane from 10-17 April.

The Sasol taxi marketing team, supported by qualified mechanics, will patrol these routes in Sasol branded cars, and along with official vehicles of the Limpopo Department of Roads and Transport will assist motorists with vehicle breakdowns and other minor mechanical problems. The team will carry basic spare parts. Motorists will also be informed about Sasol turbofuelsTM and lubricants.

Sasol Oil Fuels Marketing, Limpopo Tourism and Parks Board and the Limpopo Department of Roads and Transport wish you a safe trip.
