Sasol Dyno Nobel offers an extensive range of initiation systems (Primadet, Primacord and Trojan Boosters) to the mining industry through its preferred distributors.
The Primadet non-electric detonator, is the most reliable and trusted brand in the market with more than a billion units sold. When you shoot non-electric detonators, insist on genuine Primadet.
The inherent immunity to stray electrical current, in addition to the quality and reliability advantage, ensures Primadet product performance will result in fewer misfires and the associated hazards of re-firing.
The Primadet quality and reliability is unsurpassed and can improve the productivity of your operation. Reliable sequential detonation will result in more consistent advance per blast, fragmentation control and increased rock competency with associated safety benefits.
The Primadet detonator design incorporates three unique features that make it the most reliable Primadet non-electric detonator system in the market today.
The Primadet EZ Connector block is uniquely designed to effectively eliminate failed shots that can result from shrapnel cut-offs.
Innovative packaging techniques to reduce tangles, high visibility delay tags and colour coding help the miner/blaster, clearly identify which detonator is in the hole.

The Trojan Cast Booster, delivers the driving force required for generating maximum initiating energy and blasting efficiency. As a world-renowned brand, always insist on a genuine Trojan Cast Booster.
The detonator, except with the Stinger Cast Booster, is completely encapsulated in Pentolite or in a plastic housing, as with the Twinplex, preventing any possible inadvertent impact on the detonator. A protective saddle is also included in the base of these boosters to prevent damage to the detonator’s shock tubing, signal line or wire.
Each batch of Trojan Cast Boosters is tested for reliability by the Sasol Dyno Nobel quality control department. They are impervious to water and therefore ideal for the most severe field conditions. With proper storage, they have unlimited shelf life.
The booster design optimises the reliability of initiation with most cap sensitive detonators and detonating cords (8.0g/m+), reducing the chance of misfired holes and therefore, improves the safety of the products. Trojan Cast Boosters cannot freeze and will not leak dangerous oils if stored under unfavourable conditions. They have been safety proven in the standard bullet test, fire test, friction and impact tests.
The design of the Trojan Cast Boosters makes them easy to use. Detonators can only be inserted into the cap-well, the correct way, ensuring the correct orientation of the booster within the explosive column. The conical booster canister of the C-400 and C-800 have a skirting moulded at one end, which can be used to attach a weight to prevent the booster from floating in dense explosives.
![]() | The 15G Stinger is white in colour and is used in small diameter holes (54mm or less) as found in underground mining applications. It is designed to easily slip onto the end of a Primadet or any other standard detonator shell. | ![]() | The C-800 Booster is orange in colour and is designed to be used in the deeper blast holes (25m and more) to maximise the booster diameter to hole diameter ratio and increase the subsequent “bore-hole pressure”. As with the c-400 once in the blast hole, the inverted cone design maximises the surface contact area between the booster and explosive column above it. Detonating cord can also be facilitated as an initiator. |
![]() | The 150G Booster is yellow in colour and is designed for use in small blast holes up to 150mm in diameter, typically found in quarry, coal and underground operations. The size and shape of the 150g booster ensures that any Primadet detonator or equivalent used with the product is fully encapsulated. Detonating cord can also be facilitated as an initiator. | ![]() | The Twinplex cast booster is a detonator sensitive, high density, high energy molecular explosive, designed with 2 detonator wells and an enlarged through-tunnel to accommodate the use of 2 detonators where required. |
![]() | The C-400 Booster is red in colour and conical to provide an effective and cost efficient means of initiation in large diameter holes exceeding 150mm in diameter. The conical shape ensures the best booster diameter to blast hole diameter configuration for the size of the booster. Detonating cord can also be facilitated as an initiator. |
The Primacord Detonating Cord, is one of the most reliable, easy-to-use explosive and when detonated, has the initiating energy of a blasting cap at all points along its entire length, detonating at a speed of approximately 7000m/s.
Primacord Detonating Cord has been manufactured to the highest specifications ensuring each application appropriate cord has the correct core load of high explosive, encased in various protective coverings and counter spun yarns developed to withstand the many conditions encountered in the field.
Each batch of Primacord Detonating Cord is tested for reliability by the Sasol Dyno Nobel quality control department. They are mostly impervious to water (SB Cord, is not water resistant) and therefore ideal for the most severe field conditions. They have unlimited shelf life with proper storage.
The Primacord Detonating Cord design optimises the reliability of initiation with most cap sensitive explosives and boosters (8.0g/m+), reducing the chance of misfired holes and therefore, improves the safety of the products. Primacord Detonating Cord is generally impervious to extreme temperatures (-10°C to +80°C) experienced in normal blasting conditions. They have been safety proven in the standard friction, vibration and impact tests.
Having the range of detonating cords allows the blaster / miner to use application appropriate product. Easily used with most commercially available boosters, explosives or shocktube accessories. Can easily be used with most commercially available booster, explosives and accessories, however optimal results will be achieved by using the Sasol Dyno Nobel product range of accessories.

Detacord has a low core load (3.8g/m), where most cap sensitive explosives, detonating relays and cast boosters are insufficiently sensitive to be initiated by Detacord. Detacord is flexible, easy to handle, readily ties and holds knots, where it is commonly used for surface, quarrying, construction or underground blasting applications. Detacord can also be used as a surface trunkline or lead-in-line when used in conjunction with Primadet shocktube accessories.
| ![]() | Zapcord has a core load (10.0g/m). It possesses all the handling and reliability advantages of the other Primacord detonating cords. Zapcord is recommended to be used as trunklines and down-lines in severe surface or underground blasting applications. It is most commonly used as a downline where continuity throughout the column is to be ensured. |
![]() |
E-Cord has a core load (5.0g/m). E-cord is flexible, easy to handle, readily ties and holds knots, where it is commonly used for surface, quarrying and construction applications. E-cord detonating cord is commonly used as a surface trunkline, lead-in-line and down-line. E-cord is not recommended for underground use or applications.
| ![]() | Zapcord has a core load (40.0g/m). Zapcord 40 is recommended for use as downlines in severe blasting applications. It is also commonly used for demolition work, underground trim blasting, surface pre-split blasting and landmine clearance. |
![]() |
SB Cord has a core load (8.0g/m) and is designed for secondary blasting. SB Cord does not exhibit the tensile and abrasive resistant properties of the other Primacord detonating cords due to the exclusion of the outer layers of protective yarns and wax. SB Cord is compatible with all cap sensitive products and can be used with detonating relays. SB Cord will detonate through standard knots and will initiate other detonating cords. SB Cord is not recommended for underground use or applications.

Geoprime is made from the highest quality PETN, with patented bioremediation technology and other high explosive materials, where despite the hydrostatic pressure or borehole depths, ensures reliability, consistency and durability.
Bioremediation technology involves casting millions of freeze-dried micro-organisms (along with nutrients for those micro-organisms) directly into the Geoprime seismic booster during production. When these naturally occurring organisms are submerged in water, they become activated and begin to slowly bio transform the undetonated Geoprime. When the biotransformation is complete, the compounds are no longer explosive. Complete and continuous submersion in water is required to sustain the bioremediation process. In addition, the process is dependent on various other factors and environmental conditions. For these reasons, Sasol Dyno Nobel makes no claim as to the effectiveness of the biotransformation process or the duration of time required to complete it.
The Electric Super Seismic Detonator and Geoprime is ideally suited for geophysical exploration work, where the detonator fires with no appreciable time lag between the application of the proper current / amperes and detonation.
Each batch of Electric Super Seismic Detonator and Geoprime is tested for reliability by the Sasol Dyno Nobel quality control department. The Electric Super Seismic Detonator and Geoprime has the high output strength, impact resistance and superior accuracy of all Dyno Nobel electric detonators. Now made with a copper shell, the Electric Super Seismic detonator offers improved corrosion resistance in the most severe of seismic environments.
Designed to assist you in the challenging seismic acquisition environment in which you are operating. High detonation pressure and consistent high energy is released by the detonation to deliver optimum resolution for seismic data.
