Low Dioxane Ethersulfate

Sasol has responded to global industry demand for low-dioxane versions, as legislation around the concentration of 1,4-dioxane in personal care and home care products gets more stringent worldwide. True to the purpose of “Innovating for a better world” Sasol has succeeded in producing a lower dioxane ethersulfate. In Europe 1,4-dioxane recently has been classified as Cat 1b and subsequently added to the so-called candidate list of SVHC (substances of very high concern). Since 1,4-dioxane is not biodegradable and might reach surface waters and finally drinking water supplies, the EU has recently suggested to restrict the concentration of 1,4-dioxane in surfactants to 1 ppm. The proposal is currently under discussion between ECHA, the EU member states and all involved stakeholders. Restrictions also have been implemented or will be implemented soon in various US states to limit 1,4-dioxane in final products. Sasol is taking action to reduce the 1,4-dioxane concentration as far as possible to fulfil customer demands and regulatory requirements.
