Methanol Use in Non-Industrial Applications
During the Sasol Chemicals portfolio review of the SHE aspects including associated measures to improve the safety of its products, a potential concern was identified with the use of methanol in non-industrial applications due to a higher potential for improper use and disregard of methanol’s hazards. Subsequently in 2022, following stakeholder consultations and awareness raising sessions to restrict unsafe usage scenarios of methanol, Sasol phased out methanol supply to customers who utilize or sell methanol in non-industrial applications. Sasol continues to support Chemicals Allied Industry Association (CAIA) in stakeholder education and awareness initiatives by compiling documents which seek to share important and targeted information on key health & safety aspects of methanol e.g. uses, hazards & risks, personal protective equipment and emergency preparedness.
