Chemicals America
Operations
Chemicals America produces and markets a wide variety of specialty and commodity chemicals, with manufacturing operations located across the United States and corporate offices in Houston. Our most significant operations are located in Lake Charles, Louisiana, where we manufacture both specialty chemicals and commodity chemicals (in a joint venture with LyondellBasell).
We also have phenolics operations based at Houston and in Winnie, Texas, along with an advanced materials facility in Tucson, Arizona. Our America facilities produce over 2 million tons of product annually, including:
- Advanced Materials – alumina
- Base Chemicals – monomers, polymers (via LIP JV), phenolics and MEG
- Essential Care Chemicals – surfactants, ethylene oxide, C6+ alcohols, LAB and paraffin
- Performance Solutions – comonomers

Research & Development Laboratory
Sasol Chemicals’ research and development laboratory is also located at the Lake Charles Chemical Complex. The North America R&D team includes more than 80 scientists, engineers and technical staff, most with masters and doctoral engineering and science degrees.
