Sasolburg, South Africa – Entries have opened for the 31st Sasol Sasolburg Marathon taking place on Saturday, 28 March 2026. This renowned flat and fast event serves as a Comrades qualifier and is expected to draw over 3 000 national and international athletes, reinforcing its reputation as a premier fixture on the running calendar.
“Sasol is honoured to have sponsored this popular marathon for over three decades. The Sasol Sasolburg Marathon brings together elite and amateur runners from South Africa and neighbouring countries, using the power of sport to foster a spirit of unity and competition within our local community,” says Ntokozo Gcabashe, Senior Vice President at Sasol’s Sasolburg and Natref Operations.
The marathon route starts at the DP de Villiers Stadium in Sasolburg and passes key landmarks, including the Sasol One Site and Highveld Garden, as well as picturesque residential areas. Runners will have refreshments available every 3 kilometers, with our ever-popular water points staffed by Sasol employees and local businesses.

The prize-giving will be held at 10:00 inside the stadium. The male and female winners in the Open category of the marathon (42,2 km) will each receive R3 000, with first prizes of R2 000 for the half marathon (21,1 km) and R1 000 for the 10 km event. Prizes will also be awarded to winners across various age categories.

Temporary licences are compulsory and available online with entries for R70. The first 500 online entrants will receive a commemorative 2026 Sasol Sasolburg Marathon T-shirt. Athletes 60 years and older qualify for a 50% discount on all events except the fun run.
Race cut-off times are:
All finishers in the categories for which they entered, will receive medals. Minimum age requirements are 20 years for the marathon, 16 years for the half marathon, and 14 years for the 10 km race. Proof of identification and, for those 18 and under, a birth certificate is required at registration. As all prize money is paid electronically, participants should also provide their banking details.
Sasol kindly asks all road users to be aware of the event passing through the streets of Sasolburg and to cooperate with marshals and the Metsimaholo Local Municipality traffic officials.
