Johannesburg – Sasol today officially launched its new Banyana Banyana campaign, "Ntswembu, Namanje", following the announcement of South Africa's squad for the CAF Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) Morocco 2026.
Hosted in partnership with the South African Football Association (SAFA) and SABC Sport, the event formed part of the team's official national send-off, celebrating the players selected to represent South Africa on Africa's biggest women's football stage while rallying the nation behind Banyana Banyana ahead of their departure to Morocco.
Launching the campaign, Nozipho Mlambo, Senior Manager: Group Brand and Sponsorships at Sasol, said Ntswembu, Namanje marks the next chapter in Sasol's longstanding commitment to women's football.
"Ntswembu, Namanje is a celebration of the confidence, excellence and resilience that define Banyana Banyana today. While we are proud to launch the campaign as the team prepares for WAFCON, it represents a long-term commitment to celebrating and growing women's football for years to come. It is often said that great teams are built over time, through consistency, belief and unwavering support. That is exactly what Sasol has invested in for nearly two decades, standing alongside Banyana Banyana because we believe sustained investment creates lasting impact; not only in building champions on the field, but in shaping a stronger future for women's football in South Africa."
Rooted in authentic football culture, the campaign celebrates the passion, resilience and pride that have come to define Banyana Banyana while reinforcing Sasol's belief that lasting success is built through consistency and unwavering support. It also honours nearly 17 years of Sasol's investment in growing women's football and inspiring future generations of players.
Thabile Makgala, Executive Vice President: People, Risk, SHE & Corporate Affairs at Sasol, reflected on the significance of the company's enduring partnership with SAFA and Banyana Banyana.
"Today's event celebrates a partnership that has helped transform women's football in South Africa over the past 17 years. We have always believed that meaningful change comes through sustained commitment, and we are proud to have supported a journey that has inspired generations of young women, elevated the game and positioned Banyana Banyana among Africa's leading football nations. As the team heads to Morocco, we encourage every South African to stand behind them and believe with them."
The event also marked the official unveiling of the squad that will represent South Africa at the CAF Women's Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2026, recognizing the dedication, discipline and determination that have earned each player the honour of wearing the national jersey.
When announcing the final squad that will represent South Africa at the tournament in Morocco, Sasol Banyana Banyana Head Coach Desiree Ellis said: “It is never easy choosing the squad for any tournament, but it is something that has to be done and unfortunately, we cannot take all the players with us. Bringing down the squad to 31 was very difficult, but even more so to come up with the final 26. We are satisfied with the selection we made, and we have complete faith that they will deliver on the mandate, which is first to qualify for the World Cup and then the rest will follow. The main focus for now is the opening game against Tanzania as it will set the tone for the tournament. Thank you to SAFA and Sasol for backing this team all the way, to all the other partners who are behind Sasol Banyana Banyana and not forgetting the millions of South Africans fans who walk this journey with us.”
Anastasia Tsichlas, SAFA Vice President and NEC Member, said: “The partnership between SAFA and Sasol is one of the most enduring and impactful partnerships in South African sport. For nearly two decades, Sasol has not simply sponsored women's football but helped build it. Together, we have transformed the women's game into a source of national pride and continental success. Today's send-off is more than a farewell; it is a celebration of a team that has inspired a nation. Sasol Banyana Banyana are ambassadors for South African football, women's empowerment and national pride. As the 2022 WAFCON champions, they travel to Morocco carrying the hopes of millions of South Africans.
We have every confidence that they will represent South Africa with courage, excellence, and pride. We wish them every success as they once again fly the South African flag high.”
Echoing this sentiment, Keletso Totlhanyo, Head of Sport at SABC Sport, said: “As South Africa's public broadcaster, we have a responsibility to ensure that all South Africans have access to the country's biggest sporting moments. Banyana Banyana have earned their place among Africa's elite through hard work, determination, and success on the international stage."
Also in attendance was the Deputy Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, Honourable Peace Mabe. She congratulated the players selected for the final squad and wished them well as they embark on their mission to conquer the continent and secure a place at the next FIFA Women’s World Cup.
As a symbolic gesture of national pride and support, she presented the South African flag to team captain Refiloe Jane. Her message rallied the nation behind Banyana Banyana and encouraged the players to represent South Africa with pride, courage and determination at WAFCON 2026.
