We have a responsibility to minimise the impact of our facilities on biodiversity. Consistent with our SHE Policy, we recognise that we have a custodial responsibility to respect and care for the environment, which includes addressing land and biodiversity matters.
Sasol Energy has partnered with the Endangered Wildlife Trust (EWT), a local conservation NGO to advance our biodiversity practices. The first phase of this work involved undertaking a biodiversity footprint assessment for the Sasolburg and Secunda operational sites through applying the Biological Diversity Protocol (BDP). The BDP provides a quantitative measure suitable for biodiversity accounting. A summary of these preliminary assessments is available here
A second phase of work is underway with the EWT to develop internal capacity-building and awareness-raising content on biodiversity.
We have appropriate management, systems and governance structures in place to manage our environmental and asset retirement obligations.
