LOCAL CONTENT
Sasol has nearly two decades of presence in Mozambique and has over the years been a driver of socio-economic development through its investments and operations. A key aspect of this development impact has been enabled through Sasol’s commitment to Local Content. As a result, Sasol positions Local Content as an integral part of its corporate strategy and recognises the importance of developing the local workforce and suppliers in the regions where it conducts its business operations.
In Mozambique, Sasol has implemented a Local Content strategy which aims at contributing to the transformation of the local economy. This commitment extends beyond compliance with Mozambican policy and legal requirements. Therefore, to further enhance the economic impact it has generated in Mozambique in nearly two decades, Sasol has partnered with the Government of Mozambique to develop a 5-year Local Content Plan (Financial years 2020 - 2024) that was formally signed off in December 2019.
The 5-year LCP is based on a set of principles and guided by a strategic approach that has been developed and agreed upon between the Government of Mozambique and Sasol. Therefore, five enabling Strategic pillars have been identified to drive the LCP:
To create a positive economic and social impact in surrounding communities, we followed a consultative approach, engaging communities and getting their input for a five-year development programme which will include the use mainly of local suppliers and the local workforce.
