Sasolburg, South Africa – On Friday, 31 May 2024, just as the cold front was about to hit the Vaal Triangle, Sasol donated 375 blankets to 10 non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in Metsimaholo that render support to senior citizens and people living with disabilities.

“It is well-known that cold weather is associated with health risks such as colds, flu and even falling which can have devastating effects on the elderly and people living with disabilities,” said Thuli Mbuli, Sasol Head Community Affairs.  Donating blankets to the NGOs through Sasol’s Winter Warm Drive is contributing to not only keeping some of the most vulnerable in our community warm, but also a little safer from the perils associated with winter, she said.

“It is important to Sasol to be a catalyst for social change. One of the ways we can achieve this is to work with organisations such as NGOs to address the specific needs in our communities. This grants Sasol and the organisations the opportunity to bring about positive change to the benefit of the community,” said Mbuli, thanking the NGOs for the important work they do in Metsimaholo. 

The Sasol Winter Warm drive forms part of Sasol’s social impact programmes that work to create a positive and measurable socio-economic impact, responding to key societal challenges in the communities where Sasol operates.  The company’s social investment approach is underpinned by focus areas that include quality education, the Bridge to Work Skills programmes, environment, health and service infrastructure and Sasol For Good that incorporates skilled volunteering and employee giving, NGO capacity building, community support and philanthropy as well as community development.
